Clinoptilolite Animal Feed Additive
Reduce feed input costs and improve profitability
Zeolite is widely used worldwide as an animal feed additive for swine, poultry, cattle, dairy and sheep. Organic certified, 100% non-toxic and stable. Zeolite minerals have unique properties that improve animal health and overall farm profitability. Though clinoptilolite has no caloric value, it reduces feed input costs by making the most of what you feed.
Highlights
- Up to 34% increase in weight to-feed ratio, meaning less feed required per pound of weight gain.
- Strong affinity for ammonium leads to excellent odour control, improved digestive performance due to reduced ammonia build up in the bloodstream.
- Effective rumen buffer for the digestive tract of high performance dairy cattle. Higher cation exchange properties equates to more buffering.
- Reduces risk of scours, acidosis, diarrhea, enteritis and other gastrointestinal diseases.
- Increased NPM for ruminants and improves microbial activity.
- Improved phosphate utilization.
- Anti-caking properties in feed as well as increased feed pellet durability.
- Reduction in overall mortality.
- Approved for use in animal feed additives.
- Research points to efficacy as a mycotoxin binder. It is not approved for use as a mycotoxin binder in North America, however it is used as the standard for mycotoxin binding in many countries as well as Europe. It helps control alfatoxins in animal feed which lowers mortality from digestive stress and such leads to the reduced use of antibiotics, for example antibiotics are not used in Europe when zeolite is supplemented in feed.
- Droppings of groups receiving zeolite diets contained up to 25 percent less moisture than those of control groups.
- Using zeolite found that Leghorn chickens required less food and water and still gained as much weight in a 2-week trial as birds receiving a control diet.
- Increased number of gradable eggs, shell thickness and egg production.
After years of extensive research, field testing, many producers are including zeolite in their feeding program. There are verifiable improvements in overall growth and mortality in these animals as a result.
Dealing with bloat
Animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, goats and sheep have microorganisms in their stomachs that produce protein from available nitrogen. The process involves converting nitrogen to ammonia, which is subsequently converted to amino acids which are then converted to proteins. When fed a NPN rich diet, for example hay with a high ratio of legumes, the stomach may not be able to process the excess nitrogen which can create toxic situations such as bloat and potentially death.
By implementing zeolite in animal feed you can absorb much of this excess ammonia generated from the nitrogen intake, while still being available to the microbiome. As such, this allows for 4-6 times more NPN in the diet, without toxic effects from the NPN. While clover and alfalfa can yield high levels of production this issue can make the feed complicated, zeolite is an excellent solution to utilize those high yields.
Zeolite is typically supplemented at 1-5% feed. We source only the highest purity clinoptilolite for animal feed, which is scientifically proven to outperform other zeolites in animal feed.
