Good Farm Economics, Reducing Feed Costs with Clinoptilolite
If you're a Canadian Farmer and you are dealing with rising costs of feed, you may want to strongly consider the introduction of clinoptilolite in your feed and not just for your bottom line. Adding clinoptilolite will reduce your feed input costs and improve feed to weight gain ratios, leading to a more profitable and environmentally friendly operation for you and your animals.
Clinoptilolite has so many benefits its hard to know where to start.
Lets start with feed input. Research by Stanley Leung at McGill University. Pigs were fed rations containing between 0% and 6% Clinoptilolite. Despite the clinoptilolite containing no caloric value, it outperformed the diet containing 0% clinoptilolite in both low and high protein diets.
It has really good results as a mycotoxin binder, though it isn't approved for use in North America it is already being widely used in the EU and many other countries.
When added to chicken feed, it will dramatically reduce the number of toxic bacteria in their microbiome. Chickens suffering from salmonella, recovered faster and were exposed to less oxidative damage. Lower mortality, increased shell thickness and decreased moisture content in manure are some of the many additional benefits for poultry.
Clinoptilolite is used in cattle, poultry, swine and the benefits are quite dramatic. We'll be posting more detailed entries on each specific animal and use cases.
